Last weekend, Bailie, Mom, and I headed up north to Eveleth for a Sniffin’ camp, but on the way up we made some fun stops. Once you leave the Twin Cities it is pretty much just wooded areas northward. We were pretty excited to get up north, but the roughly three hour drive can get to be a bit long.
Our car was packed to the gills. Ever since Mom stopped working for the airline, she drives on trips and takes everything we own along! I have to say we are so happy to have our 4Knines (affiliate link) SUV Cargo Liner and a Backseat Cover. Being a dog event, we had to bring kennels and all kinds of stuff that could easily damage our leather seats, but not with these rough and tumble seat covers!
About two hours into the drive we stopped at Moose Lake State Park to take a nice hike. We had to pay a $5 user fee for the day, but that was fine. Once we got to our camp in Eveleth, we would be sharing a cabin with a friend and her two dogs. To help break the ice a bit, we met up at Moose Lake State Park and walked together for an hour.
We took a photo by the park entrance sign, but I was having trouble staying still on my rock, so it didn’t turn out too well.
Before hitting the trails I wanted to be sure and read the directions about clean paws.
We headed out on the trails. It was a beautiful area as the trees were all such pretty colors. Bailie and I stopped to take a photo on a piece of old dock.
I decided to take a photo of just me with the pretty fall color background. To our surprise, after the walk, Mom found eight deer ticks crawling on Bailie’s furs, and two on mine. It was a good reminder ticks still exist in the fall.
We all had a nice walk, and we were now headed straight to Eveleth, the home of hockey in the USA! They usually call Minnesota the state of hockey. It is a huge sport here.
The highlight of the drive up north was the world’s largest free standing hockey stick. Now for a bit of a lesson. Yes, the largest hockey stick in the world is in Canada, but it is carved and attached to a building. The hockey stick in Eveleth is an actual stick and is free standing which makes it the largest free standing hockey stick in the world. The hockey stick is 110 ft long, weighs over 3 tons, and the hockey puck weighs 700 lbs. Mom could barely get the whole thing in the frame of her camera!
To get a feel for the size, Bailie and I are seated on a regular sized park bench, so this hockey stick is huge!
With the hockey stick in downtown Eveleth behind us, we drove the few miles to Camp Warren, where we would be spending the weekend. It’s looking pretty rustic and I know Mom isn’t a fan of “roughing it”, oh boy! Stay tuned next Thursday for a recap of our weekend camp!
Today Iβm joining the Barks and Bytes Blog Hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog! Join up and share in the fun, or just visit a few new blogs!
looks like the start of a great adventure
It was a great weekend!
I hope it’s not too”rustic” π I’ll have to go to Eveleth, Minnesota some day, I love hockey.
There isn’t much in Eveleth besides hockey and pretty leaves but it was fun stopping.
Looks like you guys are on your way to a great trip! Dad would have LOVED that hockey stick, he has been playing since he was a youngster! Mom isn’t a fan of roughing it either, can’t wait to hear all about it! π
We like hockey, but no matter if you like it or not, it is a cool hockey stick and puck to see.
Looks like you guys had a fun trip!
It was an awesome weekend!
Beautiful pictures, and I almost missed the 2 of you on the bench in front of the world’s largest freestanding hockey stick! EEK! You freaked us out with the ticks. The mom had a bad experience once with ticks and totally hates those buggers! XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
We hate ticks too, but they are a big part of nature here, so we have to just watch for them. We got pretty close to Duluth on our trip up north. Thought of you.
Uh-oh…roughing it isn’t my thing either, hope it went okay. At least it’s not snowing…
Tents would be a definite no, but for nose work, Mom agreed to give the YMCA camp a try. I’ll have more next Thursday.
Wow! And that is just the start of the weekend? Sounds like it is going to be fun
It was an awesome weekend and a great start for sure.
That is one big hockey stick! Looks like a great start to your weekend and I’m looking forward to more about your sniffin’ camp.
I’ll have more next week. It was just too much for one post.
Wow, we’re jealous. It sure looks fun!
It was a lot of fun.
We like the way you listened and wiped your feets
Lily & Edward
I like to follow directions, my mom likes to break the rules.
WOW this one had it ALL…. Rocks and Sign and SNIFFING and New furends.. What a grand and BEAUTIFUL time that must have been
We were all dead tired when we got home Sunday night. Super fun time!
Omg I love that huge hockey stick!! You would think we would have one of those bad boys here in Canada, but nope! Looks like you guys had a great time, sorry about the ticks!!! Eek!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
You Canadians have one, but it isn’t free standing.
Emma, that was a great road trip! Your car looks a lot like mine when it is packed for a road or camping trip! The parents seem to bring everything but the kitchen sink! The scenery there is just lovely and I think the giant hockey stick is super cool! Great photos from your trip.

Next week I will have the camp portion. It was too much for one post.
I’m not sure if they meant wipe your feet on the sign, but Emma followed the letter of the law for sure. Also, I think you guys could contact Guinness about most photos of dogs in front of oversized objects. You’ve got quite a few nice ones in the catalog over the years.
Mom says she needs a pet elephant or something because we always look so small!
Great post Emma! Looks like fun. Here is a funny comment from mom: when she saw the first picture of the BIG hockey stick she thought that there were two little old ladies sitting on the bench– she was reading it on her phone. She thought, funny I wonder why those ladies are in the photo. Then she made the picture bigger and laughed because it was you guys!!! Great post, your doodle friend Dash
Good to know we look lady like π We were definitely tiny in comparison to the stick!
These are terrific photos! I love the one of you reading the instructions. It is adorable. That is a ginormous hockey stick and puck too. It made me laugh. Hugs, Bentley β₯
You know we enjoy finding weird stuff, so when we heard camp would be in Eveleth, we knew what our mission would be! I like to follow instructions, so I did read the sign, Mom just blew by it.
What fun stuff. Imagine wiping your feet in the outdoors.
I’ve seen dogs do it, but I didn’t want to do the wrong thing.
Glad your mom found the ticks! Eventually we will get a car seat cover, meanwhile we just use a towel π It’s not very effective. *oops!
A good seat cover is worth a lot. Towels, sheets, etc, just don’t cut it.
What a pawesome Road Trip gals (except for the minor tick thing), we cant wait to read more next week!
Smileys!

Can’t wait to tell everyone about the camp experience. Our first camp, Mom’s too. She never wanted to go as a kid so she never did.
It looks like a pretty cool park to walk around in. Ticks are active mostly in the spring and fall (those really hot, humid days in summer, the ticks don’t feed.) We have our yard sprayed and I spray the dogs every day, but yesterday I found two ticks crawling on Sampson. They are super easy to spot on him, so I plucked them off and gave them a little swim in some rubbing alcohol. π I absolutely HATE ticks.
Thank you for joining the blog hop, I can’t wait o hear ore about this trip.
We hate ticks too. The usual ones are easy to spot, but these nasty deer ticks are so small, you can hardly see them. Yuck!
Y’all seriously have the best adventures!!!
We do have a lot of fun don’t we π
Eeek on the ticks! I love to get out in the forest …. although not so found of sleeping there. Look forward to hearing how your mom did with roughing it! I’m sure the hubs would love to visit that huge hockey stick!
The hockey stick was really cool to see. The roughing it was a challenge, mainly for Mom, but we survived. Stay tuned.
Sounds like fun Emma! You guys always have such cool adventures and find some pretty neat things to take pictures with.
It was a real fun trip. We love to find odd stuff too as you know.
Great road trip with a good variety of things to see and do! I’m not a fan of roughing it either, so can’t wait to hear more about how your Mom did with that!
Mom didn’t even like it as a little girl, never would go to camp. We survived and I will post about it next week. There was just too much for one post.
Wow, dat are one crazy big hockey stick!
Pretty huge isn’t it! Really neat to see.
Road trips can be fun! That hockey stick is huge!
There is a reason why it is the world’s largest free standing hockey stick I guess. It was so big!
Looks like it will be good place for sniffing, Mica always likes the woods area for smells. Have fun!
Tons of critter smells, and lots of other creatures too. We are also fascinated with the loons calling out in the morning.
what a beautiful adventure. looks like a ton of fun.
We had a great time.
That looks like a fabulous trip, except for those darn ticks. I love the entrance sign to the park. It would make a great decoration for the cabin. That hockey stick is gigantic. I guess if we are ever invaded by giants, they can play hockey. π
Thanks so much for joining the hop. I am behind as usual. It has been great to spend so much of the month at our cabin, but I am always behind. π
We were behind too all week after not having internet for the weekend. Getting behind is so easy, but catching up is real tough!
