Bokeh is the #PetPhotographyChallenge for week five. I was the designated model this week, which makes me happy! This weeks challenge is technical since last week’s challenge was composition.
What is Bokeh?
Bokeh is the way a lens creates out-of-focus points of light in a photo. These shots, we think, are the most fun at Christmas time with Christmas lights.
Types of Bokeh!
- Light strands are one of the most popular ways to achieve Bokeh. The more distance you have to the lights the smaller the light circles, closer up produces bigger circles.
- Outdoor lighting is another way to get a good Bokeh shot using the sun filtering through trees or bushes to create the illusion of being flooded by sunlight.
This Christmas photo from December 2015 is a better example of Bokeh. We had plans to find s fun sign outdoors this week to do a shot, but with Mom breaking her ankle, we were pretty limited.

Thank you, Sparkle. We have our calendar booked up for the next 6-8 weeks with lots of nothing…such a bummer, but it is what it is. You’ve had an out of order Mom yourself, so you know how it is.
I really love that first shot with the way the light hits the side of your face, Emma. I almost used an old Christmas photo too…I’ve been laid up with a stomach bug most of the week…but yesterday I finally felt enough better to work on some new shots. I know how frustrating it must be for your Mom to not be able to do everything that she wants to.
It’s really tough. Even walking from the desk to the kitchen is an ordeal.

She broke it running on Monday morning. Has to wear a boot for 8 weeks, no walks, not much fun around here for any of us. We will get through it together.

Love that effect, especially the Christmas photo. So sorry to hear about your Mom’s ankle. What a bummer. I slipped filming Kilo while walking on some hidden ice and hurt my knees again – so annoying and painful. Hoping for a speedy recovery and lots of indoor game ideas. Kilo has been getting a bit bored.
It is super tough for us all, but together we will adjust and get through it. In the whole scheme of life it is only a small amount of time, but now it seems like forever.
By golly, you’ve certainly got it down. Best wishes to your mum while she’s recovering and make sure she keeps her ankle elevated. I promise it will help the whole process!
She keeps it up when she can, but the hard part is getting her to sit still. She has a serious case of ants in the pants!

I have never heard of this effect before, but it is really beautiful and I am going to try it. We keep meaning to join this challenge, but haven’t managed to get our assistant organized enough to participate.
We love Bokeh photos, especially around the holiday time. They are real fun!
Very nice. I remember years ago, I did a photography challenge (not pet related). I did not have the nice camera that I have now so this challenge was really difficult at the time.
