Today we celebrate Memorial Day in the USA. This holiday was originally called Decoration Day when it started back in 1868. The original name of Decoration Day was chosen because people decorated the graves of the fallen with flowers, wreaths, and flags. My mom grew up with a great aunt who always called it Decoration Day. I decided to decorate myself in honor of the original name.
You know I’m always up for fun and happy, but it is a day to remember those who gave their lives for our country. Our Fort Snelling Cemetery is a place for lots of activity today. Dogs are not allowed (which stinks), but Mom snuck me in back in November 2015 so I could take this photo. I am proud to honor those who do serve and have served in the military. We didn’t want to risk any trouble today, so I will just use this photo.
Grilling is a big event for many Americans today…I am technically British, but I can be American if the grill is involved. Nothing beats lots of meat on the grill…oh the smells! Drool…
Remember to keep an eye on your pets when grilling. I never let my sisters near the grill. It is hot and dangerous. Many dogs may not comprehend the danger and could easily get burned. I always put safety first when I grill for everyone.
No matter where you are or what you are doing, I wish you a Happy Memorial Day!
we will celebrate with you with a candle for the heroes and with remembering those who helped us to bring freedom back… even when some politicians try to cut off the friendship with the US, we are still grateful and we will be friends furever… Have a good memorial day ;O)
Actually, Phenny, I believe that president #45 is the one who is undermining all the alliances that past presidents have worked so hard to maintain. It’s unfortunate that we have such a misfit in the White House. But, yes, we folks will always be friends despite his nonsense. Peace to ALL of us! We Love our Friends Worldwide!!!!!
We pay no attention to politics. Those people are all nuts. We do what we want and it works better.
Smart girls! I’m with you!
Celebrate safely, and have a very nice day. Love your decoration!
You have fun out in the wild!
My mom remembers people calling it Decoration Day! She wonders if that was a Buffalo thing? You certainly make it a Memorial Day, Emma. I should find my red, white, and blue attire. XOXO, Sparkle
No, it was not a Buffalo thing, it was nationwide in the beginning. I’m still trying to figure out Buffalo wings, why the animal is so big and the wings so small! Happy Memorial Day!
And a Happy Memorial Day to all of you as well!!
We remember our heroes each and every day. Happy Memorial Day everyone!
Hope you all had a cozy day together!
Love this! Be safe, remember and have fun!!!
Such a busy holiday, we need another day to recover!
And decorate you did. Have a safe Decoration day and keep those pretty sisters of yours safe too.
Those two are the ones to worry about! We had a wonderful day. Hope your Memorial Day was nice as well.
Emma, you just so adorable.
Awww…thank you.
It’s a little too cold and rainy here today for any grilling, but I think the rain at least held off long enough so some places could get their parades in. We think you did Decoration Day proud, Emma!
Here it was real warm when the sun came out, then it rained and got cold, then it repeated all day, sun, warm, rain, cold. We did get to grill, though.
Happy Memorial Day!
Hope you had an enjoyable holiday!
Call me when the food is ready! BOL! You know I love when you cook. Mom is remembering two of her students that lost their lives in Afghanistan. They were only 18 years old. #SoSad
That is so sad, so young. We can’t even imagine signing up to go to a place like that, but we are thankful for those that do.
Happy Memorial Day to you – thanks for the wonderful tribute. My dogs would love to join you for a bbq! It’s still too cold here for that.
Hope your Memorial Day was fabulous! We here in MN grill all year, even in the winter. It wasn’t real warm, but we grilled and ate indoors.
I sure hope one of those hotdogs was for you!
We get lots of different meats in small pieces for our training rewards. No worries, we are not neglected π
I remember calling it Decoration Day; am I older than dirt? I got really confused (still do) between Labor day, Decoration Day, D-Day and Memorial Day. Sure missed BBQ yesterday! We used to do that when everyone was still alive.
Decoration Day brings back fond memories for my mom. She likes to call it that sometimes.
Looks like you had a great Memorial Day.
The long weekend was really nice.
I guess I am a bit behind. LOL it is now almost 4th of July. Hope you had a good holiday.
