We’re building on our Umbilical Belt! We’ve had it for just over two years now, and with use, Mom has made some modifications. The latest change is adding a second leash!
Since we got our Umbilical Belt, Mom has been using it exclusively for running with Bailie. It works great, and she wouldn’t run with a dog without it, but she needed a place for her cellphone and to keep a full poop bag. As time has gone by, we have managed to get it all rigged up so it is perfect!
The original belt has a smaller pocket which is ideal for spare poop bags. We have added a cellphone holder to the strap as it is important to be able to call for help if needed. Last winter when Mom broke her ankle while running, she did not have her phone with her. The Fifth Paw poop bag holder is also a great addition to the top of the least for those full bags when there isn’t a trash bin in the immediate area.
Mom and Bailie love to run together in the mornings and the Umbilical Belt truly makes it more enjoyable for both of them! I have never used the belt myself as I am a well behaved walking dog who enjoys a long leash and I no longer run with Mom.
Madison will be old enough to start running with Mom and Bailie pretty soon, so we ordered a second leash for our Umbilical Belt. There are also some travel plans to a few cities with my sisters in the near future, and Mom thought it would be most helpful to walk them hands free. They have been practicing and so far it is going pretty well!
It’s hard to believe my mom didn’t even want to try the Umbilical Belt at first, and now she can’t go without. It is such a great tool for walking and running with your dog(s). There are many hands free leashes out there, but trust me, this one is the best by far! We highly recommend it for anyone interested in a hands free option for walking/running dogs!
*We were not asked to write another review, but we love to share our favorite products with our friends.
That belt is brilliant – all rigged up. Mom has seen people wearing those things hiking, but I need to be on my regular leash which she holds in both her hands. Apparently she is afraid I’d rip her guts out if she was hands free with me. It’s possible, I guess…. #unpredictable

Mom was the same way until someone finally convinced her to give it a try and it is amazing. The strength of your core stopping a pulling dog is so different from using your hands. She should try it!
My friend Clarence’s mom uses a hands free belt because she has bad hands (hairdresser). Unfortunately there is no way for her to control her dog with it so it’s not something we would ever try. Glad to see Madison is learning how to run on a leash! Love Dolly
It’s easy to control us because the leash is short and if we pull, the core stops the pulling. Bailie is always pulling unless she is on the Umbilical Belt, then she rarely pulls because she learned not to the first few times out.
Great ideas. Sometimes you have to start with a good product, and make it your own.
I guess customized would be the best way to put it!
Will you tell my mom to get one? She likes the concept, but says we would tangle her up and then fight. You have a great mom. Our mom is resourceful and creative, but she is not a runner. Elbe and Chablis
It works so well for my sisters, but they don’t fight. Madison is a real pest, but Bailie doesn’t mind and is very patient with her. The Umbilical Belt is great for running, but works just as well for walking. Mom used it in Chicago on their mini vacation.
we like your belt, it is uncomfy for both sides to run while holding a leash in your hand… a belt like yours is the solution… and we just need poop bags and the phone… all other things we can order via phone when needed ;o)
It’s perfect and really sturdy too.
Waist belts are a total gamechanger. Makes running and walking with multiple dogs a lot more manageable. We’re just getting Zero started on training with ours too.
Mom just did the double for a few hours in downtown Chicago and it was great! It’s so nice to have free hands and this one doesn’t tangle which is also nice. Only on the boat tour did we manage to wind ourselves up and around Mom, but it was easily remedied!
That is a great hands-free leash for your mom! We don’t run but my leash has all sorts of additions including The Fifth Paw. We always carry our cell phone too.
Mom is bad about carrying the phone, but she is trying to get better.
That really does look like it is working out quite nicely!!!
It’s super handy!
Glad it’s workin so well for y’all!
It is. Mom never would have imagined it!
looks very handy
It’s awesome!
I still love ours as well! I’ve thought from time to time about getting the second leash too. Luke doesn’t walk quite as well on it. Usually I have Cricket on it, but after reading your post I decided to switch them and see how it went. Luke was pretty “jerky” at first, but once he got used to how it felt, he did better. I’m going to try it a couple more times and if he continues to do well, I think I’ll get another leash too, and have them both on it.
I love the cell phone attachment too – I have to always try to wear something where I can stick it in my pocket but it would be nice to not have to do that.
It takes a few times of trying to pull and jerk to learn that the core is stopping it. Bailie always pulls, but rarely on the Umbilical Belt.
It looks like your umbilical belt is growing right along with your family. We are also big fans of Fifth Paws!

It’s super practical!
Hands free leashes are such a great convenience, you look ready for anything in your belt. Ours isn’t a big belt, it’s just a simple one that hooks on to a thin pack that wraps around my waist with some compartments. I don’t use it too often because Icy is a real puller, but I can use it easily with Phoebe. I’m so happy for you that you were able to get back into running so soon after breaking your ankle, you must be in really good shape to have recovered so fast!

You should try an Umbilical Belt. One of the things that makes it stand out is the wide, strong belt. When anyone pulls, the core of the human stops the dog. We have some of the thin strap ones and they don’t work nearly as well. Bailie is always pulling, but after a time or two with the Umbilical Belt, she really cut back.
I think Mom is brave. I can’t imagine trying to walk one of my dogs on that, let alone two!
It took a long time for her to be convinced to try it, and it was amazing as everyone said. She just loves it!
