Speedy Gonzales is what we call Bailie at mealtime. Coming from a litter of fourteen, she has always been an Olympic level speed eater. Mom has slowed her down considerably, and she does chew her food these days, but she is always much faster than the rest of us. Cat bro Bert is also a speed eating champion, but he got a slow feeder a few years ago which slowed him way down. Let’s see how a slow feeding bowl works out for Bailie.
My GBGV Life received one Outward Hound® Fun Feeder Slo Bowl™ from Chewy.com to review as a member of the Chewy Influencer Program. Speed eating is not a healthy habit for dogs, cats, or humans. Eating slowly is better for digestion, and in dogs, can help prevent cases of bloat. As a #ChewyInfluencer, I received the Outward Hound® Fun Feeder Slo Bowl™ for Bailie to test drive. I chose the flower design in purple since she is our Purple Girl.
The Slo Feeder will hold up to four cups of food, making it suitable for dogs of all sizes. If your pup prefers wet food, or a combination of wet and dry like Bailie, this feeder will hold both. We even poured Bailie’s liquid supplement right into the feeder, and she licked it out. Some of our favorite features are:
- The ability to use the feeder for wet or dry food
- It is made from food safe materials
- There is no lead or Phthalate
- Free of BPA and PVC
- Non slip base of the feeder
Mom isn’t into washing dishes, so being dishwasher safe is a good thing at our house. The Slo Bowl does have to go on the top rack, but if your rack is adjustable like ours, it fits just fine.
Bailie, being a true
French food hound, dug right into her meal in the Slo Feeder. She moved from side to side, licking in between the dividers with her tongue, to get each piece of food out of the bowl.
Mom’s favorite feature of all, is the no slip base. Bailie really had to work at getting the food out of the crevasses in the bowl, but despite all the work, the bowl did not budge at all! With her normal bowl, she moves across the kitchen while eating.
What do we find to be most amazing about the Slo Bowl? The package says your dog will eat ten times slower, yeah, right! Guess what, that might actually be accurate! Little Madison, the most pokey eater of all, was done way before Speedy Gonzales! We had to actually restrain her from disturbing Bailie. The end result is the bowl seriously works to slow eating! We would recommend it to anyone looking to slow down their dog at mealtime. Bailie not only ate everything but one crumb, she licked it so clean, it looks like new!
Let’s not forget the free cat toy we got with the bowl. Cat bro Bert always looks forward to our Chewy deliveries so he can have a new box to play in. #Chewyboxlove We also ordered the food Bailie was eating from Chewy.com. Chewy has it all, and they are an amazing company!
oooh they even picked the pawfect color for you, how great!
Go big or go home. We do it right around here 😉
It does look like a cool feeder. I like these for Shiner, but she objects. She must think I’m crazy and wonders why I can’t feed her in a normal bowl lol.
Bailie dove right in and then stopped and gave Mom a real puzzled look for a second, but then got back to eating without any issues.
Torrey came from a big litter too, and has always been a fast eater. She is better now then when she was younger, but a dish like that would still be good for her.
We worked really hard that first year to slow her down, but she is still fast too.
Both of the boys use slow feeders but need a deeper one than this for their food. I will have to see if they have one we could use too.
This one is pretty deep and narrow. Bailie really had to work to get her food out of it.
I myself eat like a civilized lady preferring my food shaped into a mountain so I can take small portions without getting my face dirty??
Fursister Q & felinebro Jerry Underfoot are speed eaters & could use this bowl.
Thanks for sharing ?

Madison and I both savor our meals, but Bailie is all about the speed.
So glad you’ve found something that works for Bailie! We agree it’s important they don’t gulp their food down.
I’ve always figured most of our dogs were fast eaters because we have multiples. But I guess your Madison proved that theory wrong! Sheba was pretty slow, and we had to slow everyone else down so they’d leave her alone. We use different types of slow feeders which work well, but they don’t have as many dividers like this one does. Cricket doesn’t need to be slowed down any more, but Luke probably could. Only problem is we feed him in a raised feeder so I don’t think this one would work for him.
I have always been slow too. Mom used to be late for work almost every day because I would eat so slowly. This feeder really puts the brakes on Bailie.
Hope it slows her down. I am the slowest eater in my house, and I spread my food all over the floor as I graze! XOXO, Sparkle
Madison and I do that too. Bailie just puts her head in the bowl and starts wolfing down the food.
Hailey has to use one as she eats too quickly. We love hers.
We have something similar for my Sister Gracie but she figured out how to catch a claw on it and dump it all out on the floor!
Cat bro Bert would like her number so he can use that trick too!
We have the blue one for our speedy Zari. It works perfectly and she too cleans it to perfection! We love it.
It is amazing how slow Bailie is eating.
Glad it worked!
This feeder totally exceeded all of our expectations.
Looks like this bowl did the trick!

It is amazing how much it change Bailie’s eating!
Guilty’s not impressed that she has to eat slow now but it’s better for her.
Bailie isn’t impressed either, but she does it.
I could use one of those for Jaxson – he’s a gobbler.
We are shocked. Bailie is always speedy, and we figured she would attack the bowl and manage to clean it out in no time, but it takes her forever to eat now.
A bowl and a toy…wow, Chewy’s is out-did themselves! ? We love those slow feeder bowls. Works like a charm with my speedy Ninja.
It’s amazing how long it takes Bailie to eat now!
I have three of the original versions of these fun slow bowls…one each for Callie, Shadow, and Ducky…but only Ducky still uses hers. Shadow’s bowl doesn’t fit in her elevated bowl stand.
There are so many out there. It’s amazing how slow Bailie eats using that bowl.
I’m glad it’s worked out so well for Bailie! Rye still loves ours, too, but she has figured out how to get it to slide across the floor despite the non-slip bottom. I can’t get her to use her nose to push a treat ball around, but things that aren’t supposed to budge and she’ll nose them all over the place 😉
Bailie is good about using slow feeders and food balls. Puzzles she doesn’t like. She picks those up and shakes out the treats or food.
