Do you need a healthy boredom buster for your dog? We love winter at my house. Even those Arctic blast days are kind of fun, but when there are too many subzero days in a row, we start to get bored and need something to do.
My GBGV Life received a KIWI Half Venison Shank from Chewy.com to review as a member of the Chewy Influencer Program. My GBGV Life did not receive any monetary compensation for this review. As with most folks these days, boredom tends to lead to online shopping. I did just that at Chewy.com. Did you know they even have a daily deals page? They have so many products for all your pets. What could be better than a nice bone to chew on to keep me busy? Chewing is something I love to do when I’m bored, and it is healthy for my teeth. Remember I posted about how important dental health is for dogs last week. My new chew arrived as always in just a couple of days. You have to love the fast shipping Chewy.com provides!
I’m the family food snob, and not everything that we order is something I will sink my teeth into. This time, I am quite pleased with my selection of a Ziwi Peak Half Venison Shank. It is smaller than I expected, but it is still big enough for me.
A girl needs to be cautious with any new arrivals, so I sniff over the product carefully before we even open it up.
Mom unwrapped the shank and I gave it a try. I do like it! It is super tasty, but not at all messy. A few facts about the Venison shanks:
- They are 100% sourced from ethical and sustainable New Zealand farms with proteins that are free-range and grass-fed.
- The shanks include natural nutrients and marrow, and are wrapped in a beef esophagus.
- Chewing helps to improve your dogβs dental hygiene and decreases bad breath.
- Shanks are air dried to retain their nutrients in a form that is long-lasting.
- All-natural chews contain no artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives.
Once I start chewing on my shank, I don’t want to stop. We have a lot of chews at our house. Bailie and I share all the time. Mom can take chews away from us, but this time I growled when Mom wanted to take the shank. It was time to do some drop training, which we did, and then I was fine with giving it up. It is so tasty, though, I really don’t ever want to give it up!
My overall opinion is pretty evident in my super long tongue position. Mom gave it to Bailie to try, and she also loves it. Now it is a chew we only have when one of us is home. I think we need to order a second one so we can both enjoy a venison shank.
Why not get your paws on one for your dog. Winter is long, and I bet your pup would love a good venison shank chew on a cold day! If not, Chewy.com also has a big toy sale going on right now with 20% off. A boredom buster for your dog will be appreciated, and keep that pup out of trouble too!
I love chews and this one looks so yummy! We saw your breed at Westminster dog show last night and we were cheering for you!
We saw some of the judging of our breed too. Exciting being the first time we could show there.
Awesome post Madison! Mom is buying special things for me so when my brother arrives I will get to have some special treats! I am going to ask her to put this chewy on the list! Thanks for the recommendation!! We have a snow day today so mom is home. Yippee! Have a good day Madison! your friend Lilly
We got another 6 or so inches overnight. Mom is always home, but she is out shoveling a lot the past week. We are enjoying all the fluff. Your mom is good to get you some special things for when your brother arrives. He will need a lot of your mom’s attention, but you will be his biggest role model and teacher. Remember to have your mom do some tandem training with commands so he can see you do it and imitate you. Exciting times ahead!
Madison! Did you see the GBGV in the hound group in Westmister? Mom loved how the announcer talked about you guys. βamiable, loveable Frenchman!β Wouldnβt Emma have loved that! It was just awesome
We only saw a very short segment of the show. Honestly, it really would have been Emma’s thing, so Mom wasn’t very interested in looking at any of it. It’s still too hard. I do have to agree we are loveable and amiable, but Frenchwomen π
Completely understandable! β€οΈ
You sure were having some yum fun with that one!!!
It is very good, and I hate to have to share it with anyone!
oh I bet that tasty bone can chase any boredom away and it keeps you busy till the bad ole winter takes a break and you can play outside…
We can play outside in the snow, but it is almost as deep as I am tall now, so it is a lot of work for me hopping around. The seriously cold weather has disappeared for now.
So excited. Katie can only eat venison and finally a great treat. Canβt eait to get them
We thought of you when we ordered this one. I bet she will love it.
Don’t forget that it is wrapped in a beef trachea.
I bet Torrey and Roxy would love this. I will check it for sure.
I was slow to warm up to it, but then I refused to let it go. It seems to really last a long time too.
I might have to check it out for Ducky. I’m not sure Shadow’s sensitive system could handle it.
I don’t know much about sensitive tummies, but it sure is super tasty!
I am getting a bit stir crazy at the moment because of the cold wet nasty winters weather outside
Oh how I wish Chewy delivered over The Pond, I’m sure I wouldn’t be such a handful at times like this if I had my very OWN Chewy box!
Loves and licky kisses

When Mom lived in Germany she ordered from ZooPlus all the time, but it was nothing compared to Chewy. Not sure if ZooPlus is still around or not. Emma and Katie knew all about it.
We are definitely going to get a few of those – all 4 of us are into yummy chews!
You better order up four because trust me…no one wants to share this goodness!
That’s a very nummy way to cut the boredom in your house.
It sure is. We go out and hop around in the deep stuff and then relax with a good shank.
i like Ziwi foods. is the shank hard? my girls cant have hard treats. i think your Mom better watch that credit card. with all of the storms and additional snow you and Bailie are sure to get bored and go crazy with shopping. i am surprised that you growled at your Mom, but i can understand if it was that delicious. it is nice that you shared with Bailie. my girls dont like to share their favorite things.
Mom was shocked too because I have never growled at her before. She got right to work with me to make me see that is not the right thing to do. I learned and I got some more time with my shank.
Wow, that’s cold. I’m so ready for some warm weather. Won’t it be nice when you can go outside and it’s pleasant for you and your peeps. Yes it will be.
I linked this post to Happy Tuesday.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your humans. β₯
We really love the cold and snow most of all. Summer is not much fun with all the heat. Below zero is fine if it is just a day or two at a time, but too many days and then we get bored.
And it’s not so hard that it’s likely to crack a tooth, right? That’s been one of my concerns about antlers.
I’d also curious about how long it lasts. Will it end up demolished quickly? Or is it a long time chew?
Maybe you’ll do a follow up the next time you share your latest Chewy arrival.
It is hard, not sure if it is as hard as a marrow bone, but it is a tough one and it seems to last a long time. We have both had lots of chew time and it is still alive.
We can’t get those cool bones because one of us (Bentley) doesn’t share and always wants Pierre’s. They need to learn manners like you girls.
Bailie is always easy going. She lets me steal anything I want from her. Mom says I can be a brat at times and she will return items to Bailie.
Oh Madison…aren’t these bones the best! In fact, I think I will ask Mama if I can have a chew session this afternoon!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
I was very surprised at how good it is. Love it, and it will last a long time too.
We are having way too many super-cold days here, and definitely need more things to keep Luke entertained while stuck inside! He seems to prefer things that have a little give though when he bites on them.
This shank is a true project. Most of the wrap is off the outside, but we still have the shank to work on.
EEEEK! You growled? I have done that, and yep the training happens! That looks so yummy, but after the root chew my mom is chew shy. The mention your breed frequently ’cause it is new to Westminster this year. XOXO, Sparkle
We saw some of the show yesterday just to have a look at who was there. Not being into showing dogs, we don’t watch those things much. Sports are our thing instead. I guess the GBGV didn’t make the final cut for best in show, but I’m not surprised. They seem to pick similar dogs each year.
Any bone worth growling over must be great!
My mom was shocked. She never thought I would growl about anything but I did. Now I have learned with a quick lesson that it is not allowed. The bone is worth the lesson, though.
I would have taste tests for the pups when I took care of four or more of them and they loved it, posing for photos and all. That was really more of a summer thing but works inside too, just messier. When it’s too cold I’d take the little guy who flunked out of training school to a mall and work on his problem areas. He’d wear his in training vest and no one seemed to care.
Sometimes Mom puts down a few kinds of treats and lets us choose which one we want.
These sound like something my dog would like. Some of the reviews mentioned that their dog was able to crack it though. I might still try one for my dog. Thanks for the review.
I’m sure some doge would crack through it. We enjoy chewing, but we are not aggressive chewers. For some dogs any bone is trouble because they are too rough, but we are lady like with our chews. One has to know their dog. Bailie is more aggressive with chewing than I am, but it has not cracked for her yet either.
That sounds like a perfect in the house chew, especially since all we have been getting is rain
Enjoy your chews:)
It is a good one. I think for real big dogs like you guys, it might be too small, but we are enjoying it.
Eep…that kind of cold is bone chilling!
It is cold, but it feels good and gives us all energy!
