March messiness time is upon us. Everyone is raving about the wonderful weather, warm temps, melting snow, be we are not. There are several reasons why March is out least favorite month of the year. We know winter can’t last forever but we find this weather miserable.
For starters, the snow is a real mess. All the clean white stuff melts first leaving the dirty snow exposed. Dirty snow takes a lot longer to melt than clean snow.
All the melting causes puddles everywhere. Some of the puddles are really big and a few inches deep. Overnight they freeze but not completely. This means in the morning, ones like this huge one will have to be avoided. We had to walk way around in the snow to keep from being on the ice and falling in. Mom would not be happy being up to her ankles in ice cold water.
When the sun comes up, the frozen ice melts and turns into puddles again. Our bellies and leg furs get super wet and dirty on our before dinner walks. Any dirt spots turn into mud too. We had a lot of construction around here in the fall and there is more than enough dirt to really mess up our furs!
It is simply dangerous for humans and dogs to be walking because of all the ice out there in the mornings. Even though it will get even warmer on the weekend and most of the snow will be gone, chances are we will get more snow this month. More snow means we have to go through this March messiness time all over again. The other thing we dislike is people who we never ever see are out walking now because “spring is in the air.” We so enjoy our peaceful walks but for the coming weeks, people are out all over the place and it makes us all a bit nuts. In another month, things will be looking up again, but for now, we have to deal with the mess and the crowds.

we agree with you… it is no real spring nor is it a normal winter… it is like a jacket without sleeves….
It is a useless month we think.
Ladies I 200% agree with you. There is nothing appealing about brown snow with dirt and sticks and worst of all the black ice created overnight by the melting during the day. Your precious furry paws are for sure constantly in need of being wiped and dried.
It would be nice if it would just warm up enough one day to make it all disappear.

With those long furs I can sure see why the messy stuff isn’t any fun!
Madison has the most trouble being so low to the ground.
I completely agree with you! It’s a muddy mess and yes in the morning I have almost wiped out a few times! I also don’t like that where I live they never swept the leaves, etc…….when I walk Levi, at this age he tries to eat EVERYTHING. I have to pull his leash so closely. He has to be allowed to sniff things but I have to be vigilant about watching if while he is sniffing he is ingesting things. Will be happy when the leaves, snow, puddles and all are GONE!!
We just know it will all disappear, but then most likely it will snow again and we have to do it all over again. Be careful on the ice.
Tell those people the mornings belong to you and that they should go home!
It is just not as fun walking when a lot of people are out. We like the peacefulness.
We, too, will be happy when ice, slush, muddy lawns and yards are banished for the season! Our furnishings have become a ” GRAND” mess (LOL)

We agree, it can be such a mess! We are not there yet though. We only had a couple warmer days and now it’s been very cold again. Nothing is melting here, or the sun melts it just enough to turn it to ice when the sun is gone. I know your family likes the cold, but I am just longing for it to get above freezing again – I’m tired of bundling up for the cold!
We do enjoy the cold but this bit of warmth really makes a mess but it isn’t warm enough to dry things out either.
It sounds like March MADness to me and I’m not barking about basketball! It just sounds like a dirty, slushy, icy mess! Plus it messes with you furs. Make sure your mom stays safe. Happy Fri-Yay! XOXO Sparkle
It does make us all mad, but we have to get through it. In another month or so it will be better.
We hate the messiness of March too. We just have to bide our time while everything dries up and firms up.
There was so much construction in the area we have a ton of extra mud to try to avoid. Not real fun.
Oh dear, it does seem you have a bad case of March Messiness in your part of the world. Please stay safe in all that dirty snow and ice. Here in Aberdeen we are past the messy snow melt phase, but are still waiting for some spring sunshine..

Yes, I (the Mom) remember March in PA. That’s when I would take off for FL for a week or two. Loved the beautiful new snow, but the old dirty stuff, and the slush on the roads that splashed you when the cars drove by and the dangerous melting icicles hanging from the roof…no thanks.
Mom says March is the only month she would not mind being gone from MN.
Since we don’t have much snow hear..March is all about the muddi-ness, we sure hope you get another freezy snow storm before the warm weather sets in!
Usually March sends a big storm or two our way, but we will see.

This weather is simply rough for all.
We agree with the March Messies! It freezes at night and melts during the day and the mud is horrible! Mom has washed the floor a few times today and Cinnamon has been in the tub to get the gloopy gunk out of her toes! Mom does not like March!
It is the only month of the year where we would not mind living somewhere else for four weeks. It’s not only mess, it is just plain ugly.

It’s extra bad here this year because they have been doing utility work, even in the winter, and up until late November, they were doing road construction so dirt and mud are everywhere.
Well, the good thing is that once the messiness is over, you won’t have it again for a whole year!
This is true. March is just an ugly month we have to deal with yearly.
