We visited Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on the first day of our weekend road trip. Neither of us have ever been to a college or university, making it a new experience. We left home early so we would get to Des Moines in the early afternoon.
Since they don’t allow dogs to actually attend the university, we took a walk around the campus area and found some fun things to take photos of. Interestingly, the school mascot is a Bulldog. We are not big Bulldog breed fans as Mom likes cute fluffy/scruffy dogs, but a dog is a dog. Spike is the first one we ran into. He looks scary but didn’t lay a paw on us.
As we walked along, we found this fun mural for the school. The Bulldog looks much nicer on the mural! The campus had several fun murals but most were either blocked behind a fence or had cars parked in front of them.
There is a place call the Drake Diner and they have this dressed up Bulldog out front. His name is Porterhouse and we think he eats a lot of Porterhouse steaks to get as big as he is!
I found this Easter tree on a corner. It’s hard to believe Easter is next weekend! Someone had some creativity with this one. The cuteness put a little smile on my face.
But, by far, the best find at Drake University was our niece Meredith! We haven’t seen her in quite some time. When we saw her, we both went wild. It was a lot of fun hanging out with her for a few hours.

we love the easter tree, what a super idea! and we hope you got your diploma that day ;O))
No, but Olivia did earn her NW2 Title the next day π
What a fun day you had!
It was fun going some place like that since we have never done it before.
What a terrible dog, lol ! Your dogs look like angels besides him ! Like the Easter tree !
Those mascot dogs were scary but they didn’t hurt us. The Easter tree is really a fun idea.
I’m glad you had a good time and got to see a friend you haven’t seen in a while!
We don’t see her much when she is home even, so it was special to spend time with her.
How fun and look at how good looking you are. I also want that Easter tree. That’s most beautiful.
I’m glad you got to visit with your niece too. The very best part.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
Our niece was a huge surprise for us and we were over the top excited to see her all of the sudden. The whole weekend was wonderful.
That Easter tree was amazing! The best part was seeing you niece/cousin. Family time is great. I hope you got some credits for attending Drake! XOXO Sparkle
We didn’t get any college credits, but we don’t really need them. Credits for our sports would be nice but they don’t have any of those.
What an exciting visit! We miss Drake and havenβt been back for nearly two years. Tell the girls that Griff the live Bulldog is quite nice, not scary at all. Weβve met him. The Quads are a cool place- nice pick Meredith! Iβm sure there are lots of changes since we lived in the dorms. Tell her I lived in Jewett and Theo in Morehouse. She should enjoy Relays for us!
It seems like a nice place but with covid there isn’t much going on. She is hoping next year might be more fun.
You gals had a great weekend! Thanks for sharing with us!
We have a lot more coming up. It was a packed weekend!
Mom got choked up when she saw a picture of your niece! She was so happy for you all to see each other! We have college nieces too and we get sooo excited when we get to see them! Family is so special, mom always says. We agree. Great photos! We loved seeing the university. Have a good day! Your friend Lilly
She was so happy that we went crazy and remembered her so well. It was fun having her take us on a walk all around the area. Family is the bestest thing in the world.
What a fun day- and you look far better than those bull dogs!
They are not real pretty to look at, but they are part of that school.
Mom used to have an English Bulldog years ago she she thinks they’re cute. What a fun stop for you girls!
Mom says they are not her kind of dog, but they can be funny.
Wow! So many bull dogs! Our cousin (Mom’s Nephew) had a bulldog. He was a really terrific dog! Cinnamon and him got along really well. We are happy that you got to see your niece Meredith! Cinnamon gets really excited when we run into family too! We are so glad that you got to have a visit and a road trip! Have a marvellously happy day!
Our roadtrip was a lot of fun with family and friends plus some sports. We have been sleeping a lot today to get our batteries recharged.
It looks like a great place to visit, and i’m glad you got to see Meredith.
It was fun to see the school area, but seeing our niece was the best part of it all!
You girls look warm. It’s always fun to see someone you love and didn’t expect. Mommy has told us about when Angel Lexi saw Daddy at the theatre when she was came off the stage for the meet and greet when the play finished. She wasn’t expecting him there, and started screaming with excitement! XOX Xena and Lucy
It was a really nice day and seeing our niece was such a fun surprise. We don’t usually get to visit people we know on road trips.
Knowing how well you do with your training, trials and tests … if you wanted to enroll we’re sure you’d have been accepted with
scholarships!!!
If they offered a bachelors in sniffing we would be in!
what a cool and artsy school!
It’s a shame we couldn’t get more of the murals, but they were behind cars or fences and that kind of ruined photos.
What a fun trip and to reunite with a niece…what a bonus! Those bulldogs look tough but I think they’re probably harmless.
We only know one Bulldog in the furs from nose work. His name is Nigel and he seems harmless.
