Olivia and I had a Grand weekend at our nose work trials. Usually we search at schools or fairgrounds which are fine, but when an airport opportunity knocks, a scent hound has to take it, and we sure did!
My trial was on Saturday, an NW3. Mom and I were super excited to get searching and I had the luck of being dog number one. We love to be the first dog! Something happened before my first search that scared me. Basically I was terrified in my first three searches. When I’m scared, I don’t tell my mom about things which made those searches very tough for Team Pink
My last three searches I was able to find myself again. I did much better and told my mom about the hides I was finding. Unfortunately, on the second search of the day I showed lots of interest in a small torpedo bomb that was lying on the ground, but I would not tell Mom it was a hide. She decided not to risk hearing “no”, and didn’t call an alert. It was a hide so I found it but the teamwork was missing and that means I didn’t get credit for it.
At the end of the day, I earned a leg towards my NW3 Title. Now I just need another leg and I will have a full title, or I can just earn a full title by finding everything. I did earn my final NW3-I, NW3 Interior Element Title. I’m the first in our family and first GBGV to do that! It was not an easy day for Team Pink but we still had a lot of fun and reached our goals for the day!
Olivia had a Level 1 Vehicle Trial Sunday morning. Because she is really good at nose work, expectations were high. Things can always happen, so Mom was a bit reserved about how it would go.
She rocked her first two searches with times of 8 seconds and 15 seconds to find the hides. On her third search, she was on the wrong side of the vehicle and it took some time to get around to the other side and the hide. It took her 51 seconds which is long for Olivia. She finished off her last search of the trial with two vehicles finding the hide in 7 seconds. Of course, the family Sniffaluffagus earned her L1V Title. She now has three of her four level one titles.
I went to my trial alone with Mom for some mommy and me time. Olivia likes me to come along to her trials to be her cheerleader, so I usually do. Perhaps the pom poms motivate her, I am not sure. No matter, Mom, me, and Olivia had a Grand weekend of sniffing and can’t wait to sniff again next weekend!
