Today we remember Debucher Baguette, Emma, on what would have been her fifteenth birthday. It is the third birthday without her here. The country always mourns 9/11, but Emma always celebrated because she was born on this date. She said she was born on a day most people are sad as a reminder that good things can happen on bad days.
Born in England, she moved to Germany the day she turned nine weeks old and at ten months, she crossed the Atlantic and moved to Minnesota. Her first birthday was celebrated at Gramma’s house. She was a silly young pup just like all GBGV’s.
Emma lived her first five years as a house hound with her Kuvasz sister Katie and then in November 2011, she started My GBGV Life. At the time she had no idea if anyone would ever even read her blog or look at her social media pages. Over the years her little empire grew and grew and she was a very proud blogging hound. Ems loved being a star and having people recognize her when she was out and about.
Through blogging she discovered her talent in the kitchen, a real canine version of Julia Childs. Emma could bake just about anything and everything she made was to drool for! Bailie and I miss her cooking and baking a lot! No matter what she was up to, she was always the perfect model for the camera.
At seven years old she started nose work and is the first dog Mom ever competed with in any kind of dog sport. Emma was a good sniffer. The only thing she didn’t like was that other dogs got to sniff too. She felt it should all be just for her. As you know, we all have colors, and she was the red dog.
Like all dogs in this house, winter was her favorite time of year. She enjoyed playing in the snow, long winter walks, and even bundling up to go sledding. Fashion is another thing Emma was very interested in. She could wear things that would make others look silly.
Travel was also something Emma enjoyed, traveling to twenty two states and five countries. She loved a good road trip.
Her last birthday was on this day in 2018 when she turned twelve. None of us would have imagined that just forty nine days later she would leave us. Debucher Baguette, Emma, was a one of a kind hound, a real classy lady dog from England who felt she was the queen. Happy Birthday to our special, late sister Emma. We miss you, but Mom’s heart still aches a lot for you. Your loss has caused so many tears but we know she loves each of us so much, each in our own way. Enjoy your special day up in heaven.
