Mom said, “Let’s go for a walk at Blackhawk Lake!” Twenty years ago, Mom lived a block from the park and lake and used to take her dog, Trine, there. Katie and I went walking there many times and Bailie has been too, but not Madison. It was too hot for me, so I sent my sisters along with Mom.
It’s not a big lake or walk. On a normal day it takes about 25 mins to walk around the lake. Much of the trail is in the woods which makes it ideal for a hot day with all the shady places.
There used to be a lot of downed trees to climb on, but most of them are gone now. We found one for Madison to climb on.
Bailie is always the clown and when Mom took this shot, she did her silly smile!
This shot is the better one with those mega tongues hanging down to the ground. Can you tell it was a bit hot in the sun?
There are plenty of spots along the trail to lie down in the shade to cool off for a moment. Looks like they are missing a picnic basket!
Bailie wanted to swim to cool off, and Mom wanted Madison to give it a try too. Bailie did get in pretty far, but then she saw all the fish and came running back out. I don’t think she has ever seen fish in the water and it spooked her. Madison followed right behind and that was the end of the swimming attempt! You can see the fish in the water if you really look. Mom used to play tennis ball fetch in the water at this very spot with her Lab/Newfie mix Trine…twenty years ago…
My sisters stopped to pose for one more photo on the fishing pier before they headed back to the car. They had a lot of fun, especially Madison, since it was all new for her!
thanks for inviting me to such a super walk… now we found out how I will enter the water too… the mama has to waddle in the water furst and then I will follow her… or not…hehehe
It’s more fun if Mom gets in, but it has to be perfect water or she won’t go in.
Bailie, you were smart to get out of the water when those fish came, they like to nibble on you. ?
The way she ran out of the water, Mom thought there was a shark!
That’s a great place to walk, nice with the water for the dogs to cool down too. Too funny the fish scared them though.
I don’t think Bailie has ever seen fish in the water before, and with so many visible in the clear water it startled her.
I can see how fish might be a bit scary. Glad they had an opportunity to walk where it’s a bit cooler.
It’s a good spot, partly shady, water, and only about 2 miles around.
Wow it looks huge. WhT a fun place. Mom wants to go kayaking there
Lily & Edward
She could do that at that lake.
What a fun walk!! I think I would have been a little afraid of those fishies too!
High Paws!

Bailie definitely was freaked out!
Those are super mega tongues! That’s really funny that the fish chased them out of the water. Looks like a wonderful walk.
I guess the first time you notice a fish and see there are tons of them, it is scary!
That looks like a gorgeous place to walk and yep I saw the fish! I LOVE Bailie’s silly photo!
She will always be a goofball!
That was a fun out n’ about, except maybe for those scary fishes!
I thought kitties love fish?
Looks like a lovely spot!
Bailie was probably smart to leave those fish be. I’ve been swimming in places where the fish would nip at us.
No idea what kind of fish they were, but there was a real herd of them!
Well, even if they didn’t go for a complete swim, it looks like the water cooled them off nicely. They look like happy, wet dogs, and their tongues aren’t hanging out quite as far in the last photo as the previous ones! π
I think it did cool them down somewhat. They had fun hot or not!
What a fun adventure. I did see the fish! Yikes! I don’t blame the girls for running out of the water. Those guys look very different from the fish I had when Mom shared some of her tuna sandwich with me!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
They were alive and looking to attack dogs according to Bailie.
It looks like a great place to walk. Our tongues hang out like that when we walk this time of year too. I think you made the right choice by staying home in the air conditioning! I could see all of the fish!
I don’t like the heat and I like it less the older I get. The young ones don’t mind it as much.
Wow, those tongues are really hanging out! I almost think I would have gotten wet it looks so hot! But it looks like a great place. Love Dolly
Bailie did get pretty wet before the fish scared her out of the water. Madison is still skeptical.
I think that those fish might’ve freaked me out too! One of our departed Labs loved to chase and try to catch fish. It was hilarious. It sounds like you had a great day!
I don’t think Bailie has ever seen a fish in the water, so it was new for her.
Pawsome smiles, girls! Stay cool.
Hot and happy pups.
Looks like a fun walk!
The two of them had a real good time!
That really looks like a place where to walk the dogs. I think that during the summer it is nice to be near the lake, and the dogs can take a bath.
It’s great to be able to cool off on the hot days and if there is shade and water, it is a real winner!
Pawsome walk!
I love going to new places with all those new stinks to research.
Great pics. Thank you for sharing them.

We love new spots or places we don’t get to go to very often.
We LOVE your silly smile, girlie!!
Bailie can be pretty silly, but we love that about her.
Looks like a great place for a walk.
